What is happening in my body when I am stressed?

If stress can, at the beginning, seem stimulating to carry out your daily tasks and you have this impression of «boost», is simply due to the secretion of different hormones in your body:

  • Adrenaline: also known with the expression «an adrenaline ascent», this hormone allows the rapid passage of information from one nerve cell to another;
  • Norepinephrine: reduces the diameter of some of the blood vessels, increases the frequency of the heartbeat and increases blood pressure (complementary to adrenaline);
  • Cortisol: leads to a concentration of fat in the blood and an increase in blood sugar, allowing to increase our energy level.

What respiratory exercises to reduce stress?

Finally, Fiftynine gives you some suggestions to breathe better and release the pressure more quickly:

  • Consistency of the heart (Before and after the session): an anti-stress exercise that requires only 5 minutes. It inspires the nose for 5 seconds and exhale through the mouth for 5 seconds, then repeat the movement until it reaches 5 minutes. Therefore, you will regulate breathing and therefore stress/anxiety.
  • Breathing of the diaphragm: Lie on the back, put the right hand on the stomach and the other hand on the chest. It inspires and tries to raise the right hand with the stomach, without moving the left hand. Repeat several times. This soothing the nervous system will reduce stress.
